2009 Tryout Schedule

Golden Spike tryouts for the 2009 season has concluded. If you have recently moved into the area or moving to the area before August 1 and feel that you should be considered for the team, please contact Simon Pugh.

Golden Spike Goals

  1. Have a ton of FUN
  2. Win 6 games at Labor Day and be in the finals
  3. Qualify for Regionals
  4. Qualify for Nationals
  5. Top 3 at Nationals

Golden Spike’s Intention

  • Hold each individual player personally accountable
    • Each player will be responsible for their own choices and actions
    • Each player will be responsible for their own improvement of fitness, skill, and understanding of the game
  • All decisions will be for the greater good of the TEAM
    • The TEAM is comprised of personally accountable individuals
    • The strongest TEAM will be accomplished with each team member being their strongest individual team player possible
  • Create an environment during Practice/Tournaments that will have individuals push themselves and their teammates
  • Playing time will not be equal. Playing time will be determined by the needs of the team
  • Every game at a tournament will be thought out
    • Players that play less at the end of a tournament will play more at the beginning
    • During “big” games the playing roster size will shrink
    • Most points will be called lines during a tournament
    • Every individual will understand their role and expected playing time on the team during the entire season
    • Individuals can change their playing time. Playing time will NOT be set: after tryouts, beginning of the season, a tournament, or during a tournament
  • A player will greatly determine their playing time depending on their improvement(fitness, skills, understanding) or the lack of improvement of fitness, skills, understanding

Team and Line Structure

  • There will be a loose division of GOLDEN and SPIKE squads
  • There will also be certain lines that mix(CROSSROAD squad) GOLDEN and SPIKE players for specific situations
  • Specific GOLDEN, SPIKE, and CROSSROAD lines will be thought out and discussed before tournaments. Each player will be responsible of knowing which lines they will be on
  • This team will strive to have as much fun as possible. Understand that the fun that this team will be striving for is; to enjoy being and playing together, pushing each other to improve as players, individuals and as a team, and winning as a team

GS Expectations

  • Every player does whatever they want to do during May-July to prepare for the season with the understanding that they want to peak in the middle and end of October
  • By the time practices start(August 1, 2009) everyone is in great shape
  • Fitness, Skills, and understanding of the GS game will primarily be the Personal Responsibility of the individual
  • The fitness and skills gained during practice is a byproduct of being at practice and is not the responsibility of the captains or GS
    • Basically don’t rely on practice for all your skills and fitness
    • Captains will be responsible for letting teammates know what type of defense and offense we will be playing this year
    • Individuals rely on practice to work as a team(playing together and understanding the game)
  • Individuals will make all Practices and Tournaments unless specified and agreed upon at tryouts
    • Need to be at practice and ready to go ON TIME!!!
  • You have to earn your spot on the team on a daily basis. We have an opportunity to help each other improve on a daily basis
  • Each person on the team was chosen and is a valued teammate in accomplishing our goals.
  • You may lose playing time or asked off the team for the following reasons:
    • You have not kept the promises you committed to at the beginning of the season
    • You are a demise to the team
