Congratulations to Golden Spike who won this weekend's Big Sky Sectional Tournament! They defeated Missoula in a cold, windy and rainy final game, making a huge comeback after being down 3-8 at the half. The following was posted in the forums:
I believe it was 8-3 at the half, then 10-5, and then the comeback started.
In the first half, Missoula ran their upwind handler-cutting offense to perfection. Short zippy passes that made us look slow on D. We scored on an upwind zone point and an upwind Simon huck, but other than that they pretty much had their way with us. We had some badly chosen hucks in both directions and some turfs on easy passes - and they made us pay on every turnover.
After half, our D stepped way up, and the roles pretty much reversed. Missoula seemed to lose confidence in their ability to move the disc, and they started settling for downwind hucks to covered receivers. Kipp, Eric, Baker, Sarah (who else did I forget?) all D'd downwind Missoula hucks in the second half, and there were a bunch more that were just overthrown. Missoula also started coming apart upwind. I think we got three handblocks in the second half, plus one where it looked like Faris dropped the disc on a fake.
Sarah had an unbelievable catch of a downwind Watkins flick that came blading in - one of those where you'd let it go if it were a pull.
The last point was Eric with a fingertip D on Missoula's downwind huck, then a John Neill to Trevor upwind huck - just barely over James' fingertips. And then Trevor (?) to a wide open Molly for the final score.
Good luck at Regionals!
